concept SmartTrout is a low-cost, AI-IoT based system that continuously observes the water, fish and farming environment, predicts potential problems, and automatically recommends or initiates corrective action. In simple terms: Sense → Analyse → Predict → Alert → Act Instead of the farmer discovering that fish are stressed after mortality starts, SmartTrout aims to identify the conditions leading to stress early. This is particularly relevant to trout because water temperature and dissolved oxygen are critical. Traditional trout farms depend heavily on the farmer's experience. The farmer generally has to manually observe: Water temperature Dissolved oxygen pH Water flow Fish behaviour Feeding response Mortality Weather/temperature changes The problem is that these parameters can change between manual measurements. For example: Temperature increases → DO decreases → fish become stressed → feeding decreases → disease susceptibility increases → mortality may occur. The farmer may only recognize the problem after the fish show visible symptoms. SmartTrout tries to intervene before this chain reaches the critical stage.
