This research focuses on the cultivation of high-value medicinal plants, particularly Picrorhiza kurroa, using hydroponics technique in vertical farming under controlled environmental conditions. As Picrorhiza kurroa is a critical medicinal plant with potent therapeutic properties, its increasing demand in the pharmaceutical industry has placed considerable strain on natural populations, raising concerns over sustainability and biodiversity loss. Our study investigates the application of hydroponics in Picrorhiza kurroa cultivation to optimize growth, yield, and active compound concentrations. By employing hydroponics within a controlled vertical farming setup, we aim to establish an efficient cultivation framework that minimizes water and nutrient usage while ensuring year-round production of high-quality plant material. The research will examine key parameters—such as nutrient composition, pH, light intensity, and temperature—adjusted to support the unique needs of Picrorhiza kurroa throughout its growth stages. Through this innovative approach, we seek to address two primary goals: providing a sustainable alternative for industrial demand and reducing harvesting pressures on wild populations. Our research integrates advanced monitoring systems and precise control of growth conditions, utilizing automation to maintain an optimal environment and reduce resource waste. The hydroponics technique, coupled with vertical farming, will maximize spatial efficiency, contributing to high-density cultivation suitable for both urban and rural applications. This study has the potential to revolutionize the production of medicinal plants by enabling sustainable and controlled cultivation practices. The findings could support broader applications of hydroponic systems for other high-value medicinal crops, promoting environmentally responsible agriculture and contributing to biodiversity conservation.
