To investigate ergonomics, occupational health, and safety related issues currently faced in the carpet weaving industries of Jammu and Kashmir. The aim is to identify the status and challenges of regional occupational health, safety, and the need for preventive action. The main objectives of the innovative design addresses the following issues: 1. Identify common work-related musculoskeletal disorders and develop the design of the loom to overcomes these issues. 2. Recognize risk factors currently associated with work-related musculoskeletal disorders and develop the loom design to meet these challenges. 3. Identify ergonomic control methods for eliminating/reducing musculoskeletal disorders. In the study efforts were made to identify the causes and effects of WMSDs among hand-made carpet industry workers and subsequent active design measures were undertaken to design and create a system that will prevent the development and occurrence of these disorders thereby enhancing the working environment, efficienty, effectivenes and quality of products produced by carpet workers.
