A novel technology to isolate endophytes from the stigma of saffron and their utilization for the preparation of commercial bioformulations was developed. The commercial bio- formulations based on Trichoderma harzianum isolate RF12 and Bacillus cereus strain KUBOTAB5 isolated from stigmas of Crocus sativus (Jan et al., 2021) have a positive influence on the overall growth parameters of Crocus sativus, including an increase in length and dry weight of stigma and reduction in the corm rot disease of saffron with 91.66% biocontrol with Trichoderma harzianum isolate RF12 bio-formulation and 78.35% with Bacillus cereus strain KUBOTAB5. These biocontrol agents were isolated by culture- dependent technique and identified using 16S and ITS (internal transcribed spacer) rDNA barcode sequence analysis. The endophytes showed in-vitro plant growth-promoting attributes, biocontrol efficiency and abiotic stress tolerance. The talc-based bio-formulations were prepared that were tested in field at Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir.
