Ltd is the first faculty led company instituted under the Umberella of SKUAST-Kashmir in 2022 with a moto “Designer Foods for a Healthy Life” to cure and prevent various disorders and cancer through Functional Food. In 2012, father of Dr. Khalid Z. Masoodi was diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) which sparked his interest in deciphering the genetic governance in PCa and looking for an effective therapy that could work against prostate cancer. He discovered the role of four major genes in PCa progression. The Himalayan region of J&K being a rich repertoire of around 3054 medicinal and aromatic plant species (MAPs) that are endogenous to Kashmir valley were not explored for anticancer properties against prostate cancer through Transcriptomics. In a drug discovery program initiated at SKUAST-K by Dr. Khalid Masoodi, in which we screened 25,000 medicinal plant extracts endogenous to Kashmir valley from around 350-400 Medicinal Plants, resulting in the discovery of 16 new anticancer molecules against PCa. From these 16 molecules five molecules were from edible underutilized crops. The Molecule SKIDDDL-1 present in the TaxO was the best among all the edible plants, which has been consumed for ages in Kashmir as a food supplement and as a vegetable, but over time its use has diminished. SKICDDL-1 from TaxO, effectively targeted androgen receptor in PCa decreased cellular progression, decreased cancer cell migration/metastasis in vitro and reduced tumor volume, and doubled the life expectancy in mice xenograft model in vivo. A smart diet may help reduce the risk of developing PCa, slow the progression of the disease, and prevent invasiveness and metastasis. Hence, we designed MAGIC FOOD a range of Safe, Non-toxic, plant based Anti-prostate cancer futuristic functional foods fortified with our secret TaxO that can be consumed on daily basis by populations worldwide that are at high risk of getting PCa. The technology is cheap, safe and has no side effects. Problem Statement Change in food habits is taking a toll on our health resulting in emergence and incidence of various disorders and cancers. A smart diet containing anticancer small molecules and molecules that can treat these disorders can help prevent these disorders. Solution We have designed tailored diet we call as “ Designer Foods” developed through biotechnological intervention and thorough experimentation. First in line is the Magic Food, which is a designer food developed by SKUAST-Kashmir which harbours an Anticancer Molecule TaxO. Magic Food has been developed from an Underutilized plant that is edible and has been used as food since ages in Kashmir Valley. Magic Food Targets Androgen receptor (AR) a Key gene involved in Prostate cancer. AR that is a Therapeutic Target for all medicines available in market against Prostate cancer. TaxO was able to reduce expression of PSA that is a marker for Prostate cancer. We are marketing first line of Magic Food- TaxO and we propose the use of TaxO in and as a functional food that can be consumed on daily basis by populations vulnerable to. MAGIC FOOD is the first of its kind, that provides a range of safe, non-toxic, plant-based anti-prostate cancer futuristic functional foods fortified with our secret ingredient that can be used as preventive as well as a curative measure against PCa. Magic Food got attention from Malasyian, Hong Kong and USA market recently. Instead of Selling the technology our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir A. Ganai took a lead under Make in India and Self-Reliant India initiative by Govt. of India to make way for first Faculty- Student Startup- Cashmir Biotech Pvt Ltd incubated at SKIIE-SKUAST-Kashmir under NEP-2020 and NISP for commercialization of Range of functional foods- Magic Food.
