This research project is a novel approach to fully automated vertical saffron cultivation using the SPM (Saffron Production Maximization) method within a Controlled Environment System (CES). Vertical saffron cultivation has emerged as a promising solution for meeting the high global demand for saffron, utilizing minimal land area while maximizing output. My study addresses key challenges in saffron production, including resource efficiency, yield consistency, and product quality, by designing a scalable vertical farming framework specifically for saffron. The project emphasizes the integration of the SPM method with CES technology, optimizing parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, and nutrient delivery to create ideal growth conditions throughout the saffron lifecycle. Automation is a cornerstone of this system, incorporating advanced sensors, AI-driven controls, and real-time monitoring to adjust environmental conditions, ensuring optimal growth while minimizing human intervention and resource wastage. The vertical setup not only conserves space but also enhances the spatial arrangement for light exposure and airflow, critical factors in promoting healthy saffron yields. By adopting vertical saffron cultivation through automated CES technology, this project aims to achieve a substantial increase in saffron yield per square meter while maintaining consistent quality. The research findings are anticipated to contribute to advancing controlled environment agriculture (CEA) practices for high-value crops, offering scalable solutions for urban and rural settings. This project holds the potential to redefine saffron production, enhancing both economic and environmental sustainability in crop cultivation systems.
