The present innovation relates to pharmaceutical composition with enhanced antibiotic efficacy. The said pharmaceutical composition comprises Thymus serpyllum essential oil (8-11 ppm), antibiotic (0.005-0.30 ppm) and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The antibiotic and Thymus serpyllum essential oil failed to show any antibiotic/ antimicrobial activity when used alone in such minute quantities. However, antibiotic activity of the pharmaceutical composition was found to be 80- 85 folds higher than the antibiotic. Thereby demonstrating a synergistic combination of essential oil and antibiotic which can reduce the antibiotic dosage and hence resultant antibiotic resistance.
