Shiitake Mushroom is a high value nutraceutical mushroom currently not grown in Kashmir valley. This is traditionally grown around the world on wood logs. Commercially this mushroom is grown on saw dust based substrates around the world. In Kashmir saw dust is used as fuel, in charcoal making and in poultry bedding thus its cost is very high. we have developped a proof of concept/technalogy wherein shiitake culturing can be done on the lignin rich agro wastes from apple (apple pruned twigs) and shells of walnuts and shells of almondsat present all these types of agrowastes do not have a better use except disposed by burning or for charcoal making. Technology can help to convert lignin rich agro wastes of Kashmir like pruned apple wood, shells of almond and shells of walnut to convert high value Shiitake mushroom whereby Kashmir can become a shiitake producing hub in Asia
